About menopause

Menopause is when your periods have stopped for 12 months. In the UK, the average age is 51.

Symptoms
Hot flushes, night sweats, poor sleep, low mood, anxiety, brain fog, joint aches, low libido and vaginal dryness.

Perimenopause
Symptoms often start years before your periods stop, usually in your 40s. You can start HRT while you still have periods.

Treatment
HRT replaces the oestrogen your body makes less of. It is the most effective treatment for most menopause symptoms.

FAQs

Can I get HRT online in the UK?
Yes. HRT is a prescription-only medicine, so you need a consultation with a UK prescriber first. At TribElle, you complete an online consultation, a women's health clinician reviews it, and if HRT is suitable your treatment is delivered to your door.
How much does HRT cost online?
Our HRT treatments start from £15.00 for Evorel Patches (pack of 8). Gels start from £19.99, tablets from £21.99 and vaginal oestrogen from £24.99. Your consultation and pharmacist advice are free.
Which type of HRT is best for me?
It depends on your symptoms, medical history and whether you still have a womb. If you have a womb, you need oestrogen and a progestogen. If you have had a hysterectomy, oestrogen alone is usually enough. Patches, gels and sprays are often recommended because they do not raise the risk of blood clots. Your prescriber will talk you through the options.
What is body-identical HRT?
Body-identical HRT uses hormones with the same chemical structure as those your body makes: oestrogen (in gels, patches and sprays) and micronised progesterone (Utrogestan). They are licensed medicines and are recommended in UK guidance.
Can I get HRT if I am still having periods?
Yes. Many women start HRT during perimenopause, while they still have periods. You would usually take a progestogen for part of each month (sequential HRT), which gives a monthly bleed.
How long does HRT take to work?
Many women notice changes in hot flushes and sleep within a few weeks. It can take up to three months to feel the full effect. Contact our clinical team if your symptoms have not improved, as your dose or product may need to change.
Is HRT safe?
For most women under 60, the benefits of HRT outweigh the risks. Some types of HRT carry a small increase in the risk of breast cancer or blood clots. Your prescriber will look at your personal and family history before recommending treatment, and review it with you each year.
Can I use vaginal oestrogen with HRT?
Yes. Vaginal oestrogen such as Vagifem or Estriol Cream can be used on its own or alongside HRT. Very little is absorbed into the bloodstream, so you do not need a progestogen with it.
Can I switch my HRT to TribElle?
Yes. Complete a consultation and tell us what you currently use. Our clinicians can continue your treatment or suggest a change, and can advise on medication prescribed elsewhere.
I have the Mirena coil, do I still need to take progesterone capsules?
If you have a Mirena coil, you may not need separate progesterone capsules when using oestrogen HRT. The Mirena can provide the progestogen needed to protect the lining of the womb from the effects of oestrogen. It is important that the coil is still within its recommended timeframe for endometrial protection, and your clinician will confirm whether additional progesterone is needed based on your individual circumstances.
Is TribElle regulated?
Yes. TribElle is a UK-registered online pharmacy created for women, by women. All medicines are genuine, regulated treatments prescribed and dispensed by our clinical team.
