Chlamydia rapid test

Result in 20 minutesAll tests

If it's positive

  • You have chlamydia and it needs treating. A short course of antibiotic tablets clears more than 95% of infections.
  • Tell anyone you've had sex with in the last 6 months so they can test and treat too.
  • No sex, even with a condom, until you and your partner have both finished treatment.

If it's negative

  • If you tested within 21 days of the sex you're worried about, test again once 21 days have passed.
  • Symptoms? A sexual health clinic can check you for other infections. We don't supply treatment on a negative result.
  • After any treatment, test again at 3 months, especially if you're under 25.

Gonorrhoea rapid test

Result in 20 minutesAll tests

If it's positive

  • It needs treating at a sexual health clinic. The usual treatment is a single antibiotic injection, which a pharmacy can't post to you.
  • Tell recent partners so they can be tested, and no sex until the clinic says it's safe.

If it's negative

  • If you tested within 2 weeks of the sex you're worried about, test again after 2 weeks.
  • Symptoms? Go to a sexual health clinic whatever the result says.
  • Worried about chlamydia too? It's a separate kit, and if that one is positive we can treat it online.

Vaginal infection test (Canestest, Newfoundland)

Result in minutesAll tests

If it points to thrush

  • Thrush treatment is available over the counter, as a tablet, a pessary or a cream.
  • See a pharmacist first if this is your first time, you're pregnant, you're under 16 or over 60, or you've had it 4 or more times in a year.

If it points to BV or another infection

  • BV needs a prescription antibiotic, so see your GP or a sexual health clinic. We don't treat BV at TribElle yet.
  • Frothy, yellow-green or strong-smelling discharge, or a new partner: ask the clinic to test for STIs as well.
  • If you're experiencing pain, fever or bleeding between periods, please see your GP.

Urinary tract infection test

Result in minutesAll tests

If it's positive

  • Most UTIs need a short antibiotic course. In England, women aged 16 to 64 can get this from a community pharmacy under Pharmacy First, without seeing a GP.
  • Fever, pain in the back or side, blood in the urine, or pregnant: contact a GP or NHS 111 today.
  • We don't treat UTIs at TribElle yet, so your local pharmacy or GP is the fastest route.

If it's negative

  • A negative strip doesn't rule out infection. If symptoms last more than 2 days, see a GP or pharmacist.
  • Drink plenty of water in the meantime.

Menopause (FSH) test

Result in minutesAll tests

If it's positive

  • Raised FSH suggests perimenopause or menopause, but FSH goes up and down, so your symptoms matter more than the number.
  • Hot flushes, night sweats, broken sleep, changes to your periods, low mood or brain fog are enough to start a conversation about treatment.

If it's negative

  • You can still be perimenopausal with normal FSH; it's one of the reasons the test alone isn't used to diagnose it.
  • If symptoms are affecting your life, book the consultation anyway.

Vitamin D test

Result in minutesAll tests

If it's low

  • A daily supplement is the usual fix. The NHS suggests 10 micrograms (400 IU) a day for most adults in autumn and winter; a pharmacist can advise a higher short-term dose if you're low.
  • Recheck in about 3 months. Bone or muscle pain, or a result that stays low despite supplements, is a reason to see a GP.

If it's normal

  • Most people in the UK run low between October and March, so a daily supplement through the winter is still worth it.

Iron deficiency test

Result in minutesAll tests

If it's low

  • Confirm it with a GP blood test before starting long-term iron tablets; iron supplements can hide other problems.
  • An over-the-counter iron supplement is reasonable in the meantime if you're tired, breathless or paler than usual. Take it with vitamin C, away from tea and coffee.
  • Heavy periods are a common cause.

If it's normal

  • Still exhausted? Tiredness has many causes, and the free pharmacist chat is a good place to start.

Coeliac test

Result in minutesAll tests

If it's positive

  • Coeliac disease is likely but not confirmed. See your GP for a blood test and, usually, a referral.
  • Keep eating gluten until all testing is finished. Cutting it out first makes the tests go falsely negative.

If it's negative

  • A negative home test doesn't rule coeliac disease out completely, especially if you've already reduced gluten.
  • Ongoing bloating, diarrhoea, weight loss or unexplained anaemia: see your GP anyway.

Cholesterol self test

Result in minutesAll tests

If it's high

  • Ask your GP for a full cholesterol profile (HDL, LDL, triglycerides) and a heart-risk score. Whether you need medication depends on that score, not the single number.
  • Diet, activity and stopping smoking all help reduce cholesterol, and the free chat can help you decide where to start.

If it's normal

  • Recheck every few years, or sooner if heart disease runs in your family.

Pregnancy test (Clear & Simple, Clearblue)

Result in minutesAll tests

If it's positive

  • Contact your GP surgery or self-refer to your local midwife team.

If it's negative

  • Period late? Test again after 3 days with first-morning urine, and again a week later if it still hasn't arrived.
  • Still negative with irregular or absent periods: see your GP.

Ovulation test

Result in minutesAll tests

If it's positive (LH surge)

  • Ovulation usually follows within 24 to 36 hours. The 2 days around the surge are your most fertile.

If it's negative (no surge)

  • No surge over 3 cycles, or cycles that are irregular or longer than 35 days: see your GP. Conditions like PCOS can make the tests hard to read.
  • Ovulation tests aren't contraception. Sperm can live for up to 5 days, so a negative test doesn't mean a safe day.

Genital herpes (HSV-1 and HSV-2)

Lab report by emailAll tests

If it's positive

  • A positive antibody result means you've been exposed to that virus at some point, not that you have an outbreak now. HSV-1 is usually the cold-sore virus and on its own doesn't mean genital herpes.
  • Symptoms (small painful blisters or sores, tingling)? Antiviral tablets shorten outbreaks and, taken daily, reduce how often they come back. That treatment is available through our consultation.
  • No symptoms? Many people never have an outbreak and need no treatment. A sexual health clinic can advise on partners.

If it's negative

  • Antibodies take up to 12 weeks to appear, so a negative result soon after a risk may be too early.
  • Sores or blisters now? See a sexual health clinic while they're present; a swab of the sore is the most accurate test.

HbA1c, cholesterol, liver, cortisol, testosterone, oestrogen and progesterone

Lab report by emailAll tests

If something is flagged

  • Book the free chat with the report open. We'll say whether it's something to act on, repeat, or take to your GP, and what to say when you get there.

If everything is in range

  • Symptoms with normal results still deserve a conversation. Menopause symptoms with normal hormone results are common, and our menopause consultation is the next step.
